Review of 23 Hour ward written by a family member
11th January 2020

My 20 year old son was admitted to the 23 hour ward on 2nd January and stayed in for 2 nights. He was very unwell with glandular fever, and as it later turned out, complications including quinsy, though we did not realise about the complications until a few days later. The nursing staff were incredibly kind and attentive all the time he was there. He was in a lot of pain and they were really helpful with pain medication and tried to make him as comfortable as possible. He was particularly grateful to the staff nurse who looked after him during the day on 2nd and 3rd January (I am sorry I didn't note her name, but she wore a dark blue uniform, so I assume that means she was a staff nurse?). She was always calm, kind, efficient and effective and he said she looked after him really well. I also noticed during my stay with Jack that all the nursing staff were incredibly caring and lovely to the elderly man in the bed diagonally opposite. His name was Peter and he was very deaf and physically he needed a lot of care. They made sure he always understood what was happening, and kept checking in on him to make sure he didn't need anything. They were unfailingly patient and compassionate however busy they were. Thank you also to the auxiliary staff such as porters and the meals/tea service people, who also made sure Jack had a drink or some food he could try to eat. Please make sure the staff see the positive feedback, because when you are really ill you are not always as able to let them know how much the kindness is appreciated. Regards Jaquie

I thought the service was excellent. Roxy especially was great. We weren’t given the information pack until leaving so that would have been helpful at the start.

Review of Delivery Suite written by a patient
10th January 2020

Five years ago, I found my first birth experience with my son to be a troubling one, both at labour and delivery stage and then afterwards when I was on Swan Ward for 5/6 days. This affected me so badly that I made a complaint and met with a senior midwife to discuss my experience. I would now like to pass on my thanks and congratulations to staff on labour and Swan ward. Not only can I see the improvements made to the services offered but also how a new mother's state of mind can impact on their experience and reflection on those experiences. I would particularly like to signpost how effectively I was cared for by Ellie at labour stage (as well as Lorraine as her supervisor) - she was positive, understanding and helped me achieve a brilliant birth with my second son. Can you also please pass on my thanks to Jess on Swan Ward - she is an exemplary midwife who respected my feelings with regard to breastfeeding and supported me in the decisions I made. She was attentive even when very, very busy and even took the time to follow up by calling me at home. Warwick hospital is very lucky to have these midwives and I can see great improvements are in place regarding patient treatment and in supporting breastfeeding/formula feeding mothers. Once again thank you and please get in touch should you like further information or to use any of my comments, Emma Searles

Review of Farries Ward written by a patient
10th January 2020

Whilst, generally speaking, the care I received was good and sometimes excellent, there were staff, invariably at a junior level, whom I didn't think should be working in a compassionate, caring role because they seemed incapable of responding in that way. My requests for assistance were even refused on a couple of occasions and I was certainly not a demanding patient! On occasions, I felt I was kept in the dark as to what was happening in my treatment. The staff were extremely busy, but to have been told that this was going to happen sometime today, even if the timing was uncertain, would have been helpful. Good standards of cleanliness and maintenance were not being maintained, no doubt, because of a lack of staff and resources. The ward was too hot and I was told that the staff could not control temperature levels. In one room. I was in, where the ACU worked, I had that on to counteract the heat from the radiators. This is in the middle of winter!

Review of A & E written by a patient
9th January 2020

Arrived by ambulance just before 22:00hrs. I was left in the corridor of A&E due to shortage of rooms, along with numerous other patients. At midnight a Dr appeared and told me a blood test was needed. This was done sometime later and I finally got a cubicle. An x ray was done shortly after this but then nothing for 4 hrs. The queuing in the corridor was poor, no privacy for any of the patients. Drs we’re discussing conditions in full hearing of everyone. The blood pressure machine didn’t work, it needed to be plugged in but there were no powered points. Nurses tried their best but the the care was poor, no one told us what was going on. The toilet facilities were appalling, according to the rota on the wall the toilet hadn’t been cleaned all day. My wife asked several times for information but with little return. Breakfast was available at 7.30 but that was all that was offered until I was sent to Oaken ward late in the afternoon. This was after spending 5 hrs in the corridor outside A&E X-ray. I did see the medical Dr during this time but again my wife had to ask for information. It seemed as though I was out of sight out of mind. After moving to Oaken ward around 16:00 hrs for assessment I have to say the staff were outstanding, they sourced a sandwich and made tea for both my wife and I. 19hrs in all is not a good advert for the NHS!

Review of A & E written by a patient
9th January 2020

My visit to Warwick Hospital was very efficient - all of the staff we very helpful, kind and friendly. The waiting times were low as I went through the patient pathway. Triage, initial examination, X-ray, follow up with A&E doctor and then Pharmacy. From entering the hospital to leaving the car park it took only two hours.

Review of A & E written by a family member
8th January 2020

A&E staff were caring, supportive and made good decisions in a timely fashion. Although they needed to use a corridor bed for a time, they found a quiet space with little traffic so it wasn't a problem, and then a very private cubicle was used. Family members were allowed to stay throughout. My only suggestion would be that if a monitor is beeping, to turn it off as soon as is possible as the beeping is quite disturbing, especially in the middle of the night! It seemed a machine was left beeping long after a test was completed and recorded, and when no more checks of information were required.
